Great part of the hotel belongs to the state following the special law no 619 of 19 May 1952 entitled “Restoration of the Sassi of Matera”. Part of the complex also includes a property confiscated by the state in the fight against organized crime.
The construction of the hotel was partly supported through financial incentives at regional level provided by the “Public Notice High-Quality Accommodation referred to in the Pact for Basilicata CDF 2014-2020 – DGR Basilicata 517 of 17.05.2016” (“Avviso pubblico Ricettività di qualità di cui al Patto per la Basilicata FSC 2014-2020 – DGR Basilicata 517 del 17.05.2016”).
The project, the direction of work, the interior design, and the graphic identity of Pianelle resort (2010-2021) was managed by Domenico Fiore, project architect in recovery and safeguard of cultural heritage. To his works took part theoretical insights, matured with the writing of: Manuale del recupero dei Sassi (Electa, 1998), Catasto dei beni culturali, paesaggistici ed ambientali di Matera (1998) and, Piano di Gestione del sito UNESCO dei Sassi di Matera (2015) with A.Colonna.
The first phase of the conservative restoration work was carried out by the company COBIM s.r.l., while the second phase by the company ELLEVI s.r.l.

In the common spaces of the hotel are exposed four panels in historiated majolica painting by Peppino Mitarotonda local ceramist, illustrating decisive moments of Matera’s history. In the guestrooms there are artworks on cardboard of Damiano Azzizia, young artist from Puglia, whose pictorial research is the result of a study of objects / subjects that inhabit the surrounding domestic space.
The photographic hotel reportage was created by the interiors and architecture Milanese photographer Piermario Ruggeri, whose works have been published by the most prestigious magazines both in Italy and abroad.
The business consulting service was provided by Domenico De Pinto, Management Consultant.
